This was one of my first motion projects I completed at the beginning of graduate school. As part of a joint course with undergraduates we were tasked to come up with a public service announcement that challenged stereotypes about Detroit. Coming from Salt Lake, I had a lot of preconceived notions about Detroit and the danger inherent in visiting the city. I decided to combine an activity associated with crime like graffiti but pair it with a positive message, focusing on the arts and the emerging art scene in the city.
This stop motion piece was created using the featured song as a grid for the motion. I used hand drawn illustration and watercolor creating upwards of 1600 individual shots to create the piece. HeartMotion was featured in the Traverse City film festival in Traverse City, Michigan in 2014 and the Capital City Film festival in 2014 in Lansing, Michigan.
